Green Team

Little Silver PTO’s Green Team is a group of parents, teachers and administrators that are working together to increase awareness about how to make our school’s more environmentally-sustainable. Our Green Team is dedicated to creating a culture change in our community regarding sustainable living. We want students and their families to think about how everything we do affects our environment. We encourage Little Silver parents and members of the community to get involved with our initiatives and participate in our activities. We welcome any feedback or ideas! Green Team Goals:

1. To educate Little Silver students on sustainable environmental practices. This is being done through multiple programs including:

   • Educating the students on recycling and composting at lunch.

   • Art projects using recycled/up-cycled materials.

   • Extra curricular activities after school, including Earth Club and Marine Science Club.

   • Cultural Arts assemblies

   • Special events throughout the year, such as Waste Free lunch days.

2. To educate parents. We will be having PTO meetings discussing recycling and other sustainable initiatives. There will be dedicated information on the PTO’s website, as well as a green corner in our weekly Newsletter which will feature “green” articles and products. There will also be special events parents can do together with their children, including our Waste Free lunch days and trail cleanups throughout the Little Silver community.

3. To support greener initiatives within the schools by cleaning up and planting in the courtyards.

4. To become a model green organization. We have reduced paper communication, transferred to a digital PTO directory and are working with teachers and room parents on how to host environmentally friendly classroom events.

5. To make sustainable products more accessible to parents. Our school’s annual Spirit Wear sales this year included a reusable water bottle and reusable straws.
